The Client
Poppins Party Shop has been Hackney’s neighbourhood party supply shop since 1998, and it’s very proud to be a part of such a dynamic community. The business model is based on customer service and keeping it local.
The Challenge
Poppins Party Shop wants to showcase their products online, ideally, on a website. Nonetheless, they still want to preserve the small shop charm and sustain their distinguished levels of customer service.
The Solution
Create a structured and user-friendly e-commerce website that meets the stores’ core values.

The Process
I adopted the double diamond design process while designing the website; expanding on market and user research, to then focus on the findings to define the most viable solution. I diverged again when I developed more wireframes and applied user testing to achieve the current solution.
Group work
On this project, I had the opportunity to do some tasks as part of a group. Gathering raw data for the competitor analysis was one of the activities. Then, individually, each of us would analyse the competitors relevant to the individual brief. We also brainstormed and drafted a script for the interviews that each of us would later conduct. A benefit from this collaboration was the amount of data we all collected and shared in such a short timeframe.
Takeaways
I truly enjoyed working on this project! At first, I wasn’t too confident in the party supply industry, however talking with the users helped me sympathise with them, their needs and their fondness for this market.
I acquired an extensive sum on UX methodologies during these three weeks; nevertheless, looking back, user testing was where I learnt the most. Perhaps a bit too soon in the course, and without noticing this at the time, users showed me that the initial prototypes/MVPs need to be as simple as possible. Introducing a feature too early, leads to confusion, if the function is required, the user will end up asking for it!
